Snapdragon 660 vs 630
Snapdragon 660 vs snapdragon 630 – Presenting as the Mobile Platform, Qualcomm announces their next two chipset . The Snapdragon 660 is the most powerful chipset in their 6XX family. The Snapdragon 660 is the successor of previous 65X line up (650,652,653) and the 630 replaces the highly popular, power efficient Snapdragon 625.
The Snapdragon 660 is manufactured on 14 nm FinFet process which delivers ultra-fast performance in a razor thin device. It is more power efficient than the 65X series which is built on 25nm process. The 660 also removes the heating issue in device.
It is a octa core 64-bit socket having 4 high power kyro 260 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and 4 power powe efficient kyro 260 core clocked at 1.8 Ghz. The higher cores take care of heavy usage like gaming and multitasking and the lower core make improvement in the battery life of the phone. Kyro 260 is superior to previously used Cortex A73 architecture.
The gaming experience also improved with the new 512 GPU over the 510 in the 65X series. It has different units for display and video processing unit.
The brand new X12 LTE modem provides almost double the speed than the X8 and X9 modem. Qualcomm says it has peak download speed up to 600Mbps and peak upload speed up to 150 Mbps.
Bluetooth 5 comes as default with Snapdragon 660. So you can connect two Bluetooth device simultaneously with it. It also support Qualcomm quick charge 4.0 which we can see in their flagship chipset Snapdragon 835.
Snapdragon 660 supports Quad HD display and up to 8 Gb LPDDR4 ram. It also feature Wi Fi 2*2 with has two antenna to sending and receiving data. Thus it will give better Wi Fi connectivity compared to previous.
Just like the Snapdragon 660 the 630 is also built on 14nm process to replace the power efficient 625. The 630 has 8 core out of them 4 cores are clocked at 2.2 Ghz and other 4 are at 1.8 Ghz. But the difference is the Snapdragon 630 is based on Cortex A53 architecture instead of the highly powerful Kyro 260 in the Snapdragon 660.
Other than it has almost same hardware configuration like the Snapdragon 660. It is a 64 bit chip with X12 LTE modem and comes with Bluetooth 5. It also supports Qualcomm quick charge 4.0.
The GPU used here is Adreno 508 compared to 506 in the Snapdragon 625. Qualcomm says the Adreno 508 is 30% faster in rendering compared to the Adreno 506. They have also switched the memory technology from Single channel LPDDR3 to the Double channel LPDDR 4 in the Snapdragon 630.
After the 650 and 652 the 653 isn’t a good successor in the midrange line up. So the Snapdragon 660 will play a vital role in the market. And in spite of a major improvement in Snapdragon 630 compared to the 625 it is good to use it on a device with Bluetooth 5.0 and quick charge 4.0.
